I ate a Tokyo Banana last week for the first time in a long time. I was expecting it to have a really strong artificial banana taste from memory, but actually it wasn't as strong as I expected. Either they've changed the recipe (but no evidence of this on their website), or I'm getting used to strong artificial flavours!
When I bake bananas in their skin in the oven, I slit the bottom of the skin. They leave a sort of gel in the pan with a very intense, sweet flavor: the flavor I remember from banana candy. So maybe it’s not a fake flavor, just cooked.
Haha thanks mate, yeah it's hard to tell. They use real bananas in the custard part apparently, that may have changed in recent years. At the very least to be able to stay on the shelf so long it's probably riddled with additives!
I love Tokyo banana
Haha yeah it's pretty decent!
